KALIA GLOVER, M.A.

Senior Faculty for UTSA Honors College

Assistant Director for Student Engagement in the
UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA)

The United States has neglected the Human (humanities) for the sake of STEM, intentionally forgetting the vulnerable populations on which we've built these industries. If we truly seek to restructure society to reflect more equity, we need to acknowledge and embed history into every aspect of education. Students should encounter these topics long before they take an elective course in college.

I want to personally thank you for taking time to read the information contained on this website. This history is hard, but it is real, and thus we must face it if we are to change the implications in our present (Sankofa).

“We are never as steeped in history as when we pretend not to be, but if we stop pretending we may gain in understanding what we lose in false innocence.”

- Silencing the Past: Power and the Production of History, Michel-Rolph Trouillot (1995)
